A man is accused of shaking his baby daughter. Taylor Jordan Mayes, 19, is charged with first-degree assault, and abuse or neglect of a child.
According to the probable cause statement, Mayes admitted to investigators that he shook the 6-month-old girl seven or eight times, after becoming frustrated by her screaming and crying. He says she began having trouble breathing, went limp, and began seizing.
According to the Greene County sheriff's deputy who was called to the hospital, the baby girl is on a ventilator to help her breath after having emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain.
