The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department arrested Ronald Watkins, 36, of Mountain Home after a manhunt Friday. He’s one of two men who are suspected of breaking into a home in northeastern Douglas County on Friday.
A homeowner on Highway AE called the sheriff’s department after he discovered the burglary in progress. The homeowner tried to block the burglars’ car but one of them drove off the driveway and went around the homeowner. He left behind the second burglar, who fled into the woods.
Police say the suspected burglar who drove away was stopped and arrested by Wright County Sheriff Glenn Adler. He’s Michael Bunts, 36, of Mountain Grove. Officers searched his vehicle and say they found items stolen from the home in Douglas County.
A state trooper spotted Watkins walking near Highway AE at Missouri 95. Watkins fled again and a search by many officers from four departments failed to locate him in a heavily wooded area near the Douglas/Wright county line. The search ended about 2 p.m. Friday.
Watkins has an arrest warrant in Douglas County for theft of a credit card, which is a result of a case from earlier this year in which Watkins was found using credit cards that were stolen from vehicles while they were parked at a church.
