Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mike Ross' campaign says he's spent more than $1.1 million to air television ads this fall, as he outpaced Republican rival Asa Hutchinson in fundraising last month.

Ross on Friday reported raising more than $306,000 in July, compared to nearly $276,000 that Hutchinson raised. Hutchinson ended the month with nearly $829,000 in the bank, surpassing the more than $343,000 Ross had.

Friday is the deadline for state candidates to file their monthly fundraising reports.

Ross reported spending more than $1.2 million in July, and his campaign said nearly all of that was to buy TV ads that will air in the final nine weeks of the campaign. Hutchinson said a portion of the $485,000 he spent was also going toward reserving TV ad time.
