SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -

According to the St. Louis Cardinals website the defending National League champs acquired Cleveland Indians right-handed starting pitcher Justin Masterson Wednesday afternoon.  The Cardinals send OF prospect James Ramsey in exchange.

Masterson, one of the most high-profile starting pitching trade pieces on the market heading into Thursday's Trade Deadline, is currently on the disabled list with right knee inflammation, but is expected to be activated this week and is slated to start Saturday. He has struggled this season, posting a 4-6 record with a 5.51 ERA.

Ramsey, 24, was the Cardinals' first-round (23rd overall) pick in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft and is St. Louis' No. 6 overall prospect, according to MLB.com's Prospect Watch.  The Florida State product is hitting. 300 with 13 home runs and 36 rbi's playing for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals.

This news comes on the same day the Cardinals transferred 2nd year starter Michael Wacha from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day.  St. Louis is currently in 3rd place in the National League Central, one and a half games behind 1st place Milwaukee.
