The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a flat tire caused a head-on crash between a dump truck and a pickup that killed four people on Wednesday morning in northern Camden County.  Three members of a family from Benson, Ill., died in the pickup; a teenager in that pickup survived.  In the dump truck, the driver from Warsaw also died.

The crash was on the Niangua River Bridge on Missouri 5 north of Camdenton.  A Highway Patrol report says the northbound dump truck, driven by Randal Estes, 56, suffered a flat left front tire.  The truck swerved into the southbound lane and struck a pickup pulling a boat on a trailer.  The boat hit the rear of the pickup, killing driver Terry Schroeder, 50; passenger Cindy Schroeder, 46; and passenger Dylan Schroeder, 14.

The survivor is Donnie Schroeder, 14.  The Highway Patrol says he’s in a hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.  He was flown there by helicopter ambulance.

The highway was closed after the accident, which occurred at 7:40 a.m.  It reopened about 2 p.m. after an accident reconstruction team did its work, and hazardous materials crews cleaned up spilled fuel.
