SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -

A Nixa man was hospitalized after a late-night crash that left him trapped between two bridges south of Springfield.

State troopers say Joshua B. Burks, 24, was driving a Pontiac Grand Am on U.S. Highway 160 south of Springfield at 9:22 Tuesday night when he ran off the left side of the road, hit a dirt embankment and went airborne. His car landed between two bridges, requiring firefighters to use a rope and pulley system to lower themselves down and rescue Burks.

Burks' injuries are described as moderate, according to the patrol. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Officers say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. According to an online arrest report, troopers arrested Burks on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and possession of drug paraphernalia.
