CHADWICK, Mo. -

Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries when a pickup driven by a 14-year-old girl crashed Monday morning in Christian County.

The crash happened on Missouri Route 125 just after 9 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Troopers say a 14-year-old girl was driving a 1986 Dodge truck one mile north of Chadwick when she traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected, hit an embankment and overturned.

The girl and her passenger, 35-year-old Laura R. Manwarren -- both of Kissee Mills -- suffered serious injuries in the crash. Manwarren was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, and the 14-year-old girl was taken to Mercy by ambulance.

Both were not wearing seatbelts, the patrol report indicated.

Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jason Pace said Tuesday afternoon by phone that the crash investigation could take days or even weeks. Troopers will then use the information gathered to determine whether to recommend charges against whom they believe is responsible for the crash.
