The price of gas fell below $3 per gallon of regular unleaded at several Springfield stations.

Many stations, according to GasBuddy.com, are reporting prices of $2.99.9 or slightly below as of 12:45 Tuesday afternoon. The same goes for several stations in communities surrounding the Queen City.

The current national average per gallon is $3.38; Missouri's statewide average is $3.06. That reflects a state-average 39-cent drop in the past month, and a 6-cent drop in the past week. One year ago today, gas across Missouri averaged $3.57 per gallon.
