SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -

A man who is accused of stealing from a Walmart store in Springfield and assaulting employees as he was held by workers there did not plead guilty at a court hearing on Wednesday morning.   Another hearing -- labeled as a "disposition hearing -- is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Prosecutors say David Berry of Springfield tried to steal electronics from the store in north Springfield last spring.  As he was being detained by loss-prevention workers, he pulled out a knife and began slashing and stabbing at them.

Police say Berry even held a knife to one employee's throat, then took off.  Police caught up to him and took him into custody.

Berry is charged with theft and unlawful use of a weapon.
