A boy from Jefferson City and the man from St. Louis who is charged with kidnapping him were found dead in southeastern Missouri.  Police are investigating the deaths as murder-suicide.

The bodies of Markell Beasley, 6, and Demetrius Beasley, 40, were found on Tuesday night at a home in Cape Girardeau. Police said both had been shot.

Demetrius Beasley, who was not Markell's biological father, was charged earlier Tuesday with kidnapping.

Markell's mother told police she let her son travel to St. Louis from Jefferson City on Saturday for a Christmas gathering with Demetrius Beasley's family.   The mother said she later learned there was no gathering and Beasley did not intend to return Markell.    The mother and Beasley had a previous relationship.

The boy's mother told Jefferson City police about the situation on Sunday.  That led to a search for Markell and Beasley by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, including the issuance of an endangered person alert.

Investigators confirmed Markell was with Beasley, but Jefferson City police said those who saw them together no longer knew their whereabouts, until the double shooting was reported in Cape Girardeau.
