GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

A woman from Missouri who says she was pepper-sprayed and robbed last fall when she tried to sell a Capuchin monkey in the parking lot of a hotel in Grand Junction has been cited by state authorities.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture issued a cease-and-desist letter to Cheryl Ullrich.  Investigators say she violated a state law that prohibits the importation, transfer or sale of non-human primates in Colorado.

The department says the woman owns Cheryl's Primates of Chillicothe, Mo.  The woman told police that the man who attacked her stole her monkey, and the case has gone cold.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the state notified Ullrich that an injunction or restraining order will be sought if Ullrich continues the activities in Colorado.  Ullrich declined to comment on the allegations.
