City police say some recent incidents involving wayward drones show the popularity of the remote-controlled aircraft poses potential risks.
The head of the NYPD's counter-terrorism bureau says none of the incidents was sinister. He suggests, however, that terrorists could be looking at drones as tools in plots against the city.
Drone buffs say the doomsday scenarios are far-fetched. They say most pilots are tech junkies who use the drones to take aerial photos.
The most serious mishap came Monday when a crew member of an NYPD helicopter spotted a flying object headed in its direction. According to police, the chopper had to change course to avoid a collision. The drone's owner was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment.
