Crews at the Ozark Empire Fair are getting ready for free ride day, an event expected to bring huge crowds out to the fairground.

Fair-goers with a free ride voucher will be able to ride all mechanical rides for free from 1-5 p.m. Visitors can get vouchers from Price cutter stores and other Pyramid Foods Grocery stores.

"It's going to be much more fun with the weather so nice," Ozark Empire Fair General Manager Aaron Owen said. "Plus there's more stuff to go around to see and do as well as the free rides."

The added crowds will be added on to this year's above-average attendance at the fair this year. Owen said about 10 percent more people are coming to the fair compared to last year, which was a record setting year for fair attendance. He expects an added jump in fair-goers for free ride day.

"With the weather being better and what we're seeing overall, we can expect another 10-15 percent more people," Owen said.

To accommodate the large amount of people and cut down on confusion, the fair is changing how it gives out free ride wristbands.

"When you get here, to simplify things, we're going to be outside the gates and we'll be taking your free ride pass and we'll go ahead and wristband you then," Owen said. He said last year crews waited until the free rides began in the afternoon to hand out wristbands which resulted in confusion.
