SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -

On the hottest August 23rd ever, several hundred City Utilities lost power Saturday afternoon.

CU reports about 1,000 people in southeast Springfield lost power in the 4 p.m. hour. CU line and substation crews worked about two hours to restore power. Most of the affected area was east of U.S. 65 and south of East Sunshine. It ran as far south as Independence Street, east almost to Farm Road 219 and north to Farm Road 132 (Chestnut Expressway East).

CU said an equipment failure in a substation caused the outage.
