SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

A Marine from Poplar Bluff, Mo., was one of the four bomb removal technicians who were killed at Camp Pendleton on Wednesday.

The military says Staff Sgt. Eric Summers, 32, joined the Marines in July 2000.  He served deployments in Kuwait, Iraq, and three times in Afghanistan.

The Marines were killed while clearing unexploded ordnance at the base on Wednesday. The other victims included  Staff Sgt. Mathew R. Marsh, 28,  of Long Beach, Calif.; Sgt. Miguel Ortiz, 27, of Vista, California; and Gunnery Sgt. J. Mullins, 31, of Bayou L'Ourse, La..

The Corps also said one Navy Hospital Corpsman and two Marines near the accident had minor injuries.

The Daily American Republic newspaper in Poplar Bluff reports Summers is survived by a wife and two-year-old daughter. The paper also reports he has a brother living in Springfield.
