HOLLISTER, Mo. -

A national retailer has tapped Hollister to host it's first store in southwest Missouri.

Wisconsin-based Menards is planning to construct it's new facility near the interchange of Highway 65 with Business 65.

The location was set aside  years ago for a proposed water park and entertainment center.  According to Rick Ziegenfuss, Hollister City Administrator, that original project fell through following the economic downturn.

City officials say the new Menards store will bring between 100 and 150 new jobs to the community.

Once construction begins, the project is expected to take 18 months to complete.  The store could be open as soon as 2016.

The home-improvement superstore chain has other locations in Lake Ozark, Jefferson City, Columbia, Sedalia, St. Joseph, Cape Girardeau, and Poplar Bluff.  The Hollister store will be the company's farthest-south location in the United States.
