Springfield, MO -

The city will soon be getting its second stand-alone Panda Express Restaurant.

The popular California-based chain, which serves fast-casual American Chinese cuisine, plans to renovate and move into a vacant former donut eatery in north Springfield.

According to plans filed with the City of Springfield, parties representing Panda Express have filed for a building permit for a project at 720 N. Glenstone.  That's the former location of a Krispy Kreme franchise, which closed its doors in January 2013.

Panda Express is nearing completion on its first stand-alone drive-through restaurant in Springfield.  It's being constructed at 1905 E. Independence, in front of the Kohl's department store.

The company has already been operating a location inside Plaster Student Union on the campus of Missouri State University.

According to it's corporate website, in 2013, "Panda Express proudly celebrates 30 years of inspiring lives, highlighted by 23,000 associates, over 1,600 stores in 50 States and abroad."

The company has multiple stores in and around Kansas City, St. Louis, and the adjoining metro areas.
