SPRINGFIELD, MO. -

Many people have a little extra money after getting their tax returns.  A perfect time to purchase those bigger priced items. In Missouri shoppers can save on appliances during the 6th Annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.

Those who purchase new Energy-Star qualified appliances will not have to pay state sales tax.  The 4.225% tax break kicks off tomorrow and goes through next Friday.
Appliances like washing machines, fridges, freezers, dishwashers, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners and heating pumps can be bought, if they have the energy star sticker.  Over time these items can actually save you quite a bit of money.

"Basically a now energy star appliance you're going to pay about $50 dollars a year in running costs and with an energy star, you'll pay a 5th of that, $10 dollars in running costs, washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, you end up paying less in running costs per year", says Dan Green, the appliance manager at Lowes.

Before shopping you might want to see if your town is also giving you tax break over the next few days which could save you even more money
