The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says two Springfield residents have volunteered for MERS testing through the Centers for Diseases Control.

The couple were on the same flight into Orlando, Florida as an American who contracted the illness.  However, the Springfield couple have not complained of any symptoms.

MERS or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a viral respiratory illness first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012.  Symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.   The disease has a mortality rate of 30-percent.
