My name is William Bishop. I will be running the Bass Pro Marathon this weekend. It will be my second time to run in the Bass Pro Marathon, and my fourth marathon.
I ran The Chicago Marathon in 2006, and then alternated Bass Pro and Chicago in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
I sit behind a desk during the day, so running helps me to stay healthy, to maintain my weight, to be a good example for our two children (both running the Cohick Half Marathon this weekend), and to pray and meditate with my God.
I also run marathons to build endurance for my goal (dream) of climbing Mt. Everest. According to Wade Davis in his book "Into the Silence" about George Mallory's attempts to climb Everest, Mallory stated that on Everest, "endurance counted far more than technical skills with a rope."
I will soon be 50 and hope to climb Everest before I turn 55. Running daily, and running a marathon per year, helps me build my endurance. I often think of climbing when I am running, imagining that the clouds in the sky are Himalayan peaks!
I look forward to another Bass Pro Marathon.
Editor's Note: William completed the Bass Pro Conservation Marathon on November 4, 2012 in 4:18:53. KY3 is asking for your fitness stories. If you have one, send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
