CAMDENTON, Mo. -- A man who filed to run for two different seats as a Republican and a Democrat in the August primary elections dropped his Democratic bid.

At last week's filing deadline for Camden County and state offices, Bernie Mowinksi filed for two different offices. In one race, the Sunrise Beach resident filed as a Democrat for a township seat on the Democratic Committee. Mowinski also filed as a Republican for the Camden County assessor's seat currently held by a Democrat.

The county clerk's office said Mowinski has since submitted a letter to the county that asks that his name be removed from the ballot for the township seat. Mowinski said he filed as a Republican in one race and a Democrat in another simply because he could.
