A unique ballot issue facing Republic voters, who are asked to trade in one tax for another. Call it a tax trade-off. Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to vote whether to be taxed more for the things they buy, and less for the things they own. Any tax issue is tough to pass, and this economic environment doesn't make it any easier. So Republic is trying to get creative, asking for a three-eights of a cent sales tax, with the agreement property taxes would go down.
