JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Republican Roy Blunt posted a strong quarter to take the fundraising lead away from Democrat Robin Carnahan in Missouri's Senate race for 2010. Blunt and Carnahan are the only declared candidates to replace retiring Republican Sen. Kit Bond.
Blunt on Wednesday reported raising more than $1.4 million from April through June, giving his campaign almost $1.8 million on hand after accounting for expenses and money previously raised. Carnahan reported receiving about $1 million this past quarter but spent more than Blunt, leaving her campaign with about $1.4 million on hand. She had led Blunt in fundraising as of their April quarterly reports, which covered the first few weeks of the Senate campaign.
Blunt represents the 7th District in southwest Missouri in the U.S. House. Carnahan is secretary of state.
