LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A former assistant city attorney for Fayetteville says he's seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. John Boozman next year. David Whitaker said Wednesday that he filed papers to run for the party's nomination to the 3rd Congressional district seat in northwest Arkansas. Boozman, a Republican, has represented the district since 2001.
Whitaker, 48, says he views the race for the Republican-leaning district as an "uphill battle" but said he's confident he can win support in the area. Whitaker has not run for elected office before.
