JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri's leading U.S. Senate candidates both took in more than $1 million during the past fundraising quarter. Republican Rep. Roy Blunt reported Thursday that he raised $1.3 million from July through September. Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan raised a little less than $1.1 million.

This was the second straight quarter that Blunt raised more money than Carnahan. After expenses, Blunt reported almost $2.3 million on hand on Sept. 30. Carnahan had more than $1.8 million on hand.

Blunt and Carnahan are the front-runners in the race to replace longtime Republican Sen. Kit Bond, who is not seeking re-election in 2010.
