SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Community Foundation of the Ozarks and Commerce Trust Company awarded more than $127,000 to 14 local charities. They will use the money to help fund projects to fight rural poverty. It is all made possible through the Coover Foundation which was established more than a decade ago.
For those who benefited from the generosity, it means continuing to serve those who need it the most.
"It allows everybody to do more of what they have already planned on doing," said Mark Davis, a supporter of Delmina Woods Community Council in Forsyth. "Be a little more effective and maybe even bring on a few more aspects to what they're trying to achieve."
"It's a great program for us, it's needed," said Brian Fogel, president of CFO. "I wish we had five times the amount that we could've met all the grant needs, but we're glad to be in a position to help."
The Community Foundation and Commerce are planning grant money for rural schools as well.
