After weeks of nervous waiting, water is moving from the banks of the Missouri River to the streets of Parkville, and it's creeping closer to businesses.
"Just a couple days ago, there wasn't any water where we are right now. so it's something we need to be aware of at all times," said Parkville Police Chief Kevin Chrisman.
Despite the rising water, many business owners in Parkville say that they are remaining optimistic. Jantsen McBride of Aura Hair Studio at the English Landing Shopping Center says that they are ready for things to return to normal.
"We're hoping, fingers crossed, we don't have to move out," said McBride. "But just in case we've got out boxes to move everything back in."
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad isn't waiting any longer for the water to come. On Friday they started de-assembling parts and trying to salvage equipment in case the water reaches the tracks.
Authorities say that if the water reaches the sandbags that protect the downtown area of Parkville, mandatory evacuation orders will be given, leaving businesses only 24 hours to get out.
