Tunnel to Towers 5K race is a national race and will be in Roanoke on Sunday, September 9th, at Wasena Park, starting at 8 in the morning.
The $25 registration fee goes to Stephen Siller's Tunnel to Towers, the organization working to build Patrick County Marine JB Kerns a smart home.
On Kerns' third tour to Iraq in 2011, he lost both of his legs and his right arm after an IED blast in Afghanistan.
The foundation is named after Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who died on 9/11.
The race serves as the kickoff to the Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration, a multi-day event in the Roanoke Valley honoring veterans, currenty military members and their families.
After the race, there will be massages, Zumba and adult bootcamp, fly fishing demonstrations, area businesses offering discounts and services to veterans, military organizations and non-profits offering information on programs and services.
