Governor Bob McDonnell announced Wednesday that Actor Tom Hanks will be coming to the Virginia Beach area to shoot "Captain Phillips." The movie is set to release in March 2013.
The Academy Award-winning actor will portray Navy SEAL Captain Richard Phillips in his struggle against Somali pirates. The movie is based on books by Captain Richard Phillips and Stephan Talty.
Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms says he thinks the film will bring in revenue for the area. Several portions of "Captain Phillips" will be shot in Virginia Beach near a naval base.
The movie is eligible to win a $300,000 grant from the Governor's Motion Picture Opportunity Fund.
