A water main break has closed South Main Street (Route 220 Business) in Rocky Mount, and it could be a few days before it reopens.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, South Main Street will be closed at Pigg River Bridge for the next few days because of damage caused by the water. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the break casued part of the material under the road to wash away.
Drivers are asked to find a different route while crews repair the damage.
Crews have worked overnight directing traffic, and are in the process of establishing a detour.
