CHELSEA, NY (PIX11)—
For some it's the epitome of convenience, and for others it's the start of a new annoyance -- but wherever you fall, cell service is now a reality in some subway stations in New York.

As of Tuesday, commuters with AT&T and T-Mobile service will be able to chat, text and open Internet browsers on subway platforms in Chelsea.

  • The F, M and L platforms at 14th Street and 6th Avenue
  • The 1, 2 and 3 platforms at 14th Street and 7th Avenue
  • The A, C, E and L platforms at 14th Street and 8th Avenue
  • The C and E platforms at 23rd Street and 8th Avenue
Service will be available on the platform, but not in the tunnels.

Negotiations continue with Verizon and Sprint, but if the program receives good reviews it will be rolled out throughout the system by 2016.
