SPRINGFIELD -- The competition for jobs is fierce as the national unemployment rate nears 8 percent. That's why, when a company advertises it's hiring 200 people, you can expect a big urnout.
Liberty National Life Insurance will hold group interviews on Wednesday at 9 a.m., noon, 3 and 6. The interviews will last about an hour.
Managers say they won't hire anyone on the spot. They're trying to see who's interested in the job and hope to have all 200 sales positions filled by the end of the month.
"It gives us an opportunity to meet a lot of people that ordinarily would not think of a position like this and now would be attracted to it, perhaps a complete lifestyle chance," said Jeff Miller of Liberty National.
Liberty National sells health and life insurance. The jobs are commission-based and primarily daytime hours.
A news release last week says the average commission income for an agent who worked all of 2008 was $61,675. It says the "available positions offer applicants a medical insurance package as well as a retirement plan, a 401(k) plan, disability, dental and group life coverage."
