"The Last Rites of Joe May" (U.S.)

*1/2 (out of four)
To say that this Chicago-set drama takes a long time to get going inaccurately implies that it ever gets going. Practically everyone thinks that Joe May (Dennis Farina) is dead. He's not, but he sure moseys slowly from hiccup to hiccup in a mistake-laden life that may only be redeemed if he can protect a woman (Jamie Anne Allman of "The Killing") from her abusive guy. Writer-director Joe Maggio evokes a solid sense of place--multiple RedEye box sightings, what up--but watching "Joe May" is like walking behind tourists on the Michigan Avenue bridge. Come onnnnnn.
See it: 6 p.m. Oct. 6 (Farina, Allman, co-star Gary Cole, Maggio in attendance)
