ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Minnesota Twins reached agreement with right-hander Kyle Gibson, their top pick in the amateur draft, minutes before Monday night's deadline. The Twins selected Gibson, 21, with the 22nd overall choice in June.
Gibson was rated among the top prospects on the board before he sustained a stress fracture in his throwing arm prior to the draft.
Gibson didn't pitch for six weeks after the injury was diagnosed.
Gibson had said he would return to the University of Missouri for his senior year if he did not sign. He had an outstanding junior season at Mizzou, going 11-3 with a 3.21 earned run average, 131 strikeouts and only 19 walks in 106 2-3 innings.
