1986 - Jeff Planteen scored 33 points to keep Langford perfect in Lake Region Conference play with a 69-57 high school basketball victory over Northwestern. Langford made 19 of 23 free throw attempts in the game.
1991 - Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers was selected the NFL's Most Valuable Player by the Associated Press. It marks the second straight season that Montana has captured the honor.
1996 - Greg Ulland nailed six three-point field goals and finished with 34 points to lead Strasburg to an 82-46 North Dakota high school basketball victory over Kulm.
2001 - Ron Dixon returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and Jason Sehorn returned an interception 32 yards for a score as the New York Giants advanced to the NFC championship game with a 20-10 NFL playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
2006 - Noelle Hall and Sara Jensen scored 14 points each to lead Northern State's women's basketball team to a 78-68 triumph over Southwest Minnesota State. Miranda Boepple and Celia Westphal added 13 and 10 points respectively for NSU, 9-3 on the season.
2010 - Minnesota's Percy Harvin was voted the National Football League's Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. Harvin caught 60 passes for 790 yards and six touchdowns and averaged 27.5 yards per kickoff return with two touchdowns, setting a Vikings record for single-season all-purpose yardage with 2,081.
