REDFIELD -- Webster put seven wrestlers into the finals, won four of those matches and qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament on the way to capturing the Region 1B title on Saturday.
The Bearcats scored 179 points, compared to 154 for runnerup Groton.
Aberdeen Roncalli qualified three wrestlers for this weekend’s State B tourney in Aberdeen and finished with 61-1/2 points.
Tyson Mitzel, Zach Sumner and Matt Schlosser will be representing Roncalli at Wachs Arena.
“It will be a good weekend for them,” said Roncalli coach Justin Briese. “You work all season to get to that pinnacle to where you’re at the state tournament.”
Mitzel, who has lost just one match all season, won the 160-pound title with little trouble.
“He tech-falled and pinned his way through everything,” Briese noted. “He was on a mission today. He’s pretty focused.”
Sumner was third at 182, bouncing back from an overtime loss earlier in the day.
“He was seeded third. He ended up where he was seeded to be,” Briese said. “It was a good day for him. He set himself up well for state.”
Schlosser was third at 195, including a pair of pins to cap off his day.
“He came out and wrestled really physical and did a great job,” Briese said.
The pairings for the state tourney will be announced later today.
