Dorial Green-Beckham enters his junior season at Hillcrest as one of the top recruits in the country.
The Hillcrest Hornets are coming off their best season in school history. A 7-5 mark leading to the schools first ever playoff win, before eventually falling in the sectionals to class 4 power Bolivar. Head coach John Beckham enters his 3rd season at the helm, and while he hasn't quite gotten the offseason to where he'd like, things are looking up on Springfield's north side. Junior wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham continues to be the overwelming focal point of the Hornets. Green-Beckham hauled in a state record 1,600 yards last season including 23 touchdowns on his way to being named MaxPreps National Athlete of the Year as only a sophomore (1st ever). The big question is who will replace Mitch Jenkins (Missouri State) at quarterback. The answer is junior Matt Futrell, last years JV starter who has a good arm, but not the deep threat that Jenkins was last season. Both lines will be the biggest weakness at Hillcrest. A lack of size and depth could creat problems. Beckham is hoping some younger players step up. Skill positions are a strength however. Senior Jeremy Coleman and Luke Thompson join Green-Beckham on a very talented receiving core that now includes Dorial's little brother, freshman Darnell. Darnell isn't the physical speciman Dorial was, but is almost a full year younger than when Dorial was a freshman. Other players to keep an eye on are lineman Jordan Gardner and running back Donovan Mathis.
