ASH GROVE, Mo. -- Ash Grove and Stockton met up Tuesday night in a battle of Mid Lakes Conference rivals, and the host Pirates emerged victorious with a 73-42 rout of the Stockton Tigers.
Guard Jake Keller hit six threes on the night for Ash Grove as he led several Pirates in double figures. The game was fairly close in the first quarter, as Ash Grove only held a 13-7 advantage after the first eight minutes of the contest.
The Pirates would open the game up a little bit in the second quarter, as Nic Cashio and Jake Keller both helped the Pirates outscore Stockton 18-14 in the second quarter to take a 31-21 halftime lead. Stockton’s Dalton Freeze helped keep the Tigers in the game, as he had several nice scoring plays from the low post.
Coach Jeremy Nicholson’s Ash Grove Pirates would break the game wide open in the third quarter, as they outscored the visiting Stockton Tigers 27-12 and took a commanding 58-33 lead going into the last quarter.
Guard Cody Allhands made a few threes and had several steals which he converted into points to lead the Pirate attack in the third quarter. The game would slow down a little in the fourth quarter as the outcome was not in doubt, and the Pirates outscored Stockton only 15-9 (Stockton’s best defensive effort since the first quarter).
Ash Grove coasted to the 73-42 victory over their Mid Lakes Conference opponent as Stockton was not able to prevent the Pirates’ from hitting big three pointers and scoring on the low post. Jake Keller scored 21 points to lead Ash Grove to the win. Nic Cashio added 13 points, and Cody Allhands scored 17. For Stockton, Dalton Freeze scored 14 points to the lead the Tigers and was the only Tiger in double figures.
