After tying Blue Springs in the semifinal round on Friday, the Ozark volleyball team won when it mattered on Saturday, beating Blue Springs in the Class 4 state championship match 2-games-to-1.
Ozark won the deciding game 25-17, giving the school its first volleyball state title in history. It was only the second time a Tiger team had made it to the Final Four with the only other visit in 1979.
In other matches involving area teams, Winona finished second in the state in Class 1 after losing its championship match to Lesterville in two straight games while Osceola won third place in Class 1 afer beating Kansas City Lutheran 2-games-to-1 in the consolation match.
At the state cross country championshiips, the Kickapoo girls finished second in Class 4, the Springfield Catholic girls second in Class 2, and the West Plains girls and boys both finished as runners-up in Class 3.
