Long-range shooting makes Leonard an MSU Bears fan favoriteby Joe Hickman, KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Last year, the Missouri State Bears had the lowest scoring offense in the Missouri Valley Conference. In fact, they were the lowest scoring Bears team dating back to the 1950s.
This season, MSU is averaging 13 points more than they did last year, and one of the main reasons is a 6-foot-1 guard who's averaging 13 points per game, Adam Leonard. Leonard, who had to sit out last year after transferring from Eastern Kentucky, is a former Freshmen of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference. As an incoming junior, Leonard has certainly brought a level of leadership and steadiness to the MSU program as well as his long-range shooting ability. Leonard is the team's leading trey shooter, making nearly 50 percent of his three-point attempts, a fact made even more amazing by the fact that many of his shots are from well-beyond the arc. In their two biggest wins so far over Auburn and Tulsa, Leonard was the game's leading scorer both times, demonstrating that he can be the go-to guy in clutch situations. And, as head coach Cuonzo Martin points out, Leonard's success is also proof that the Bears are showing good teamwork and unselfish passing. "Lots of guys have a reputation of being real good shooters, but you don't know it because they don't have the pieces in place to get shots off," Martin said. "But I think we provide that for Adam because he gets good shots." And, as Leonard has demonstrated so far, when he gets those shots, he often makes them. Most Popular
