SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- With 12 new players and only three returnees from last year's 13-14 team, many people felt the Drury Panthers would be in a rebuilding phase in their final season at Weiser Gym. But from their season opening upset of then third-ranked Southwest Baptist to their latest 27-point romp over St. Gregory's, the Panthers have surprised everyone behind a surprising scoring leader. He's 6-foot-2 freshman guard Alex Hall from Springfield Kickapoo, who himself admited, "I never thought I'd start out like this."

"I don't know that I'd expected Alex to get off to the start he's gotten off to," said head coach Steve Hesser. "He's really been very good at shooting the ball and that stretches the defense, giving others the opportunity to score around the basket."

Hall is doing a lot of scoring though, averaging 21 points per game with the next highest Panther averaging just 12. And with 40 treys over his first eight games, which leads the Great Lakes Conference, Hall is on-pace to set a new school record in an offense he says fits his talent perfectly.

"Our offense is all motion, " said Hall. "And that's what I love. Growing up whether it was AAU or high school, we just ran. And when I came here, there's really no set plays. It's just running, screening, and getting open shots. And that's just what we're doing.
