Bonnie 'Bonita' D. Weiland Hare (Aberdeen News / March 13, 2012) |
Campbellsport, Wis.: Bonnie "Bonita" D. Weiland Hare, 62, of Campbellsport died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, with her husband, Pat, and family members at her side after a year-long battle with cancer.
She was born June 28, 1949, in Campbellsport to Leander and Elizabeth Thelen Weiland.
On July 9, 1994, she married Patrick Hare at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Campbellsport.
A graduate of Campbellsport High School, Bonnie continued her education by earning her teaching degree in history/English and her master's in guidance and counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She taught at Campbellsport Middle and High School for 14 years before transferring in 1986 to Moraine-Park Technical College in Beaver Dam, where she was a counselor for 25 years, until her recent retirement. In 2008, she began her personal business and was president of Hare Career and College Consulting LLC.
As passionate as Bonnie was about her professional life, her passion for gardening blossomed in her free time. When asked how she handled such a demanding schedule, her reply was: Everyone needs to find a balance. My getaway is gardening. This passion led her to attain the status of master gardener. She spent countless hours beautifying her residence, which had been the family farm. As a result, her gardens were featured in Birds and Blooms and Backyard Living. She truly believed in her favorite quote: All things grow with love. In her family, Bonnie was known the one who made everything special for others. Just as she spent hours planning flowerbeds, she meticulously developed a different theme each Christmas for her decorations. A highlight for her book club was to come to the annual holiday party and see her decorations. When Bonnie managed to take a break, she and Pat traveled to Door County, her favorite vacation spot, at least twice a year to stay at The Wooden Heart.
Bonnie's belief in education's importance is evident by the many professional organizations in which she was an active member, and the many professional awards she received.
In her personal life, Bonnie was an active member of St. Kilian Parish, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister.
Bonnie is survived by Pat, her spouse of 17 years; her mother, Elizabeth Weiland of Campbellsport; her sisters: Diane Weiland of Mount Calvary, Lois (Dale) Zingsheim of Campbellsport and Jane (Jim) Hutchinson of Pickett; her nieces: Jennifer, Jaclyn and Jill; her nephew, Brad; 10 great-nieces and great-nephew; her stepson, Greg (Elena) Hare of Texas; two stepgrandchildren: Max and Isabell; her mother-in-law, Caroline Hare of Aberdeen; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Donna and Gerard Roberts of Steam Boat Springs, Colo., James and Linda Hare of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Margaret and Tom Guhin of Aberdeen, Kathy and David Housel of Houston, Texas, and Bonnie and Dave Feist of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leander.
Visitation was Friday, March 9, 2012, from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 10, 2012, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian (N185 Hwy W Campbellsport).
