8. Chicagoland book club: South Loop book babes

One thing to know about your club: We meet at one another's homes once a month in the Printers Row and Dearborn Park areas of the South Loop. We try to match the food we serve to the book we are reading. Every July, we read poetry to one another on the deck of a home at Roosevelt Road and State Street. The noise of the city is the backdrop while we munch barbecued chicken and read poets such as Billy Collins and Maya Angelou and William Butler Yeats. We have been going for about 10 years. In December, we always go to a neighborhood restaurant and we have a gift exchange, often books. We are all really good friends, and we hang out in the neighborhood together. A few of our members have moved to the suburbs, and they often come downtown, and sometimes the rest of us travel to the 'burbs.
