  1. 'Super PAC' leaders profit from lack of oversight

The Red White and Blue Fund, a "super PAC" backing the presidential bid of Republican Rick Santorum, paid more than half a million dollars last month to a newly formed direct mail firm. The owner of that company? None other than Nick Ryan, a former...

  3. Gingrich: Inside look at a paradoxical politician

One of my favorite activities this primary season is to read the seemingly endless analyses of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The profiles run the gamut from glowing to scathing; just about every Washington pundit has a strong opinion of "Mr. Speaker." Yet, most of the talking heads have not worked with the man or known him very well.

  5. The year that wasn't

A year ago, soon after the Tunisian uprising, I demonstrated my powers of prediction in a column about the democracy movement in the Arab world. The revolution in Tunisia, I wrote, "arose from local circumstances that don't foretell what will happen anywhere else." Three weeks later, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak fell, and the Arab Spring was in full bloom.

  7. Quiet the war drums

The drumbeat for war only helps Iran by driving up oil prices, undermining the effect of sanctions on its economy and stifling domestic opponents of the regime. President Barack Obama conveyed that message clearly and emphatically to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee over the weekend. He repeated it to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when the two met at the White House on Monday. And he aimed it at his prospective Republican rivals Tuesday when he reminded them of what happened the last time we let the politics of warmongering get ahead of diplomacy.

  9. The 10-Day Blitz

When three national presidential campaigns simultaneously land in central Florida for a 10-day blitz for votes, it is a wild ride for press photographers. 2012 Republican presidential contenders <span class="runtimeTopic">Mitt Romney</span>, <span class="runtimeTopic">Newt Gingrich</span> and <span class="runtimeTopic">Rick Santorum</span> (<span class="runtimeTopic">Ron Paul</span> opted out of campaigning in Florida) were all wheels-down in central Florida starting Jan. 22, barnstorming across the region and the state. And I went with 'em.

  11. Unclassified Info: The Czar makes his appointments

I really tried to ignore all the banter regarding Kim Kardashian's quixotic quest to become mayor of Glendale. After all, anyone with even the slightest knowledge of how Glendale functions understands that one does not run for mayor. In order to be...

  21. Maurice Sendak wows 'em on Colbert

Popular children's author Maurice Sendak (shown here delivering a 2004 commencement speech at Goucher College) was the subject of a hilarious interview on <a href="http://www.colbertnation.com/" target="_blank">The Colbert Report</a> last night, touching on topics from Newt Gingrich (he wasn't kind) and kids (he was a little kinder).
