Advocates to rally for 'second chances' for released inmates
Two nonprofits, the Job Opportunities Task Force and Healthcare for the Homeless, will mobilize people to join an "I'm for Second Chances" march from Stanton Community Center to Lawyers Mall starting at 9:30 a.m. After a rally at the mall, advocates will spend the day holding workshops, testifying at hearings and visiting lawmakers' office to lobby for legislation aimed at helping ex-offenders reintegrate into society.
Organizers say the event will bring together ex-offenders, homeless people, health care providers and advocates for the poor.
Scheduled speakers include Jason Perkins-Cohen, executive director of Job Opportunities; Adam Schneider, community relations coordinator for Health Care for the Homeless,Sen. Catherine Pugh, D-Baltimore; and Del. James Proctor, D-Prince George's.
The Stanton center is located ta 92 W. Washington Ave. in Annapolis.
