You may think choosing your bridal party is easy, and for some, maybe it is, but for others it can be a difficult decision. Not only are you picking people to stand up with you on your wedding day, you’re essentially picking the people that mean the most to you and that you plan on having in your life for years to come after your wedding. I don’t know about you but that’s a daunting thought!
Usually a couple starts with family, specifically sisters/brothers and cousins. For me, I have two sisters and both will be by my side! I also have a brother who will be walking me down the aisle and joining as a groomsman. Similarly, Sam’s sister will be a bridesmaid on my side.
The next up are usually your closest friends, but sometimes this can become a sticky situation. You’re left deciding between people, picking favorites, maybe even leaving some out. Some brides have such a hard time making cuts that the bridal party ends up being a mile long.
You also have to deal with the opinions of others. Some view your relationships differently than you do or think specific friends will be better in the role than others. But here’s the thing: It’s not about “playing the role” or protecting feelings. Choosing your bridal party isn’t just a one-time decision; it’s a lifetime decision. Remember that you’re not picking favorites, you’re asking the people who support you, love you, know you and respect you the most (and not just you but also your bride or groom) to stand up and support your relationship, promising to help you through the good times and the bad.
Make sure to keep this in mind when you’re making your bridal party picks, and make it special for each person. Make sure they know what they mean to you and your wedding!
