Any chance Derrick Rose had of keeping a low profile at Wednesday’s Watch The Throne show went out the window when rapper Kanye West announced to the United Center audience that the NBA MVP was in attendance.
“Derrick Rose, I see you,” said West, according to my colleague, Greg Kot.
Bulls legend Scottie Pippen was also on hand and got a shoutout from Kanye as well. His wife, “Real Housewives of Miami” cast member Larsa Pippen, tweeted a photo of her and Scottie at the show and wrote underneath it “The best concert ever!!”
Also in attendance was Dallas Mavericks star and Chicago-area native Shawn Marion, who tweeted, “This concert is nuts @kanyewest and @jay-z killing it,” and aspiring rapper and Northwestern student Chet Haze (aka Tom Hanks’ son), who tweeted "Watch the Throne was pretty much the most awesome event I have ever experienced. I will never forget it. Tell my kids about it for real.”
Following the concert, Kanye was spotted at the Grey Goose-sponsored after party at The Mid in West Town. He arrived a little after 1 a.m. with a group of about five. "Birthday Sex" singer Jeremih, rapper Pusha T and "Basketball Wives" cast member Malaysia Pargo were also on hand for the after party.
Rosie is no Gayle King: Rosie O’Donnell's talk show airs on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network and tapes in Winfrey’s Harpo Studio in the West Loop, but she tells the upcoming issue of Michigan Avenue magazine that the two rarely see much of each other.
“We don’t, like, hang out,” said O’Donnell, who appears on the December/January cover of Michigan Avenue. “We’ve talked a couple of times on the phone, but it’s not like we’re buddies and have beer and Buffalo wings, you know? Although I’d love to, she’d be fun. But she’s got her own network. It’s a huge life, and I’m more grateful to her than I ever have been to anyone in my life. But I’m nervous around her, still. I’m just trying to get over it. The worst thing that ever happened during my first talk show was the illusion that I was in competition with her. No one is.”
The December/January issue of Michigan Avenue magazine comes out Friday.
Hudson’s new home: Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson is in the process of buying a six-bedroom, seven-bath home in Burr Ridge, Ill., according to Chicago Magazine. The 12,000-square-foot home was for sale at $2.795 million.
Say cheese: RedEye was on hand for the debut of Billy Corgan’s Resistance Pro independent wrestling promotion at Excalibur Friday and posted photos on their website. From what I can tell, it wasn’t your typical set up for a wrestling event.
Heads up: The Cubs’ Kerry Wood will host Woody’s Winter Warm-up – which will feature celebrity bartenders and servers – at Harry Caray’s Tavern at Navy Pier January 13. VH1's "Tough Love" will be holding a casting call at Moe's Cantina in River North Saturday. Yeah, I've never heard of it either, but RedEye talked to the reality show's host if you're interested in details.
