"War Horse,"the hit West End and Broadway show based on the children's novel by Michael Morpurgo and famous for its puppet horses, will be in Chicago for Christmas.
Broadway in Chicago announced Wednesday that the national touring production of the show, also currently playing at New York's Lincoln Center, will be at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from Dec. 18 through Jan. 5. The box office is open to groups, but single tickets are not yet on sale.
Morpurgo's book is also the source of the Steven Spielberg movie, nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture. The live version of the show, which combines human actors and equine puppets, was first produced at the National Theatre in London in 2007. It has been a huge hit in London and New York and demand for tickets in Chicago, where the run is surprisingly short, is likely to be high.
Downtown eateries will be busy this December. When "War Horse" arrives, "The Book of Mormon" will already be playing at the Bank of America Theatre.
