Corene Lewis, 85, of McDowell Place of Danville, died Monday, May 16, 2011.
Born Dec. 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and LaFaun Baugh Hughes. She is the widow of Dwight Lewis. She was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She also was a member of the Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, deacon, member of the choir and played the piano for the children’s choir.
Corene was a current member and past president of PEO-Chapter I. She was a past member of the Garden Club and Homemakers, an active member of Ephraim McDowell Hospital auxiliary and was involved with Meals on Wheels. She received nursing training at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She moved with her family from Elwood City, Pa., with Rexnord.
Survivors include two sons, Dean (Terri) Lewis of Palatine, Ill., and Neal (Joan) Lewis of Killingworth, Conn.; two daughters, Jane (Patrick) Scisco of Danville and Gail Lewis of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Richard (Alice) Hughes of Vinton, Va.; a sister, Carol West of Bourbonnais, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Jim Stewart and Dale Denton will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dan Moran, Pat Linton and Sheila Hardin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to the Salvation Army and the American Diabetes Association.
The family would like to thank the staff of the transitional care unit of Ephram McDowell Regional Medical Center for thier loving kindness.
