Sled hockey fundraiser
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — The Johnstown Sitting Bulls will hold their 4th annual Faceoff Fundraiser April 6 at Planet Ice.
Doors open at 2 p.m. with the sled hockey game to start at 2:45 p.m. between the Sitting Bulls and a team of local media/educator all-stars.
The game helps raise funds for the Sitting Bulls sled hockey program. It provides an opportunity for the physically challenged youth to play competitive ice hockey. The game follows all of the same rules as USA Hockey but the disabled players play sitting on a sled fitted with blades — instead of skates, propelled by shortened hockey sticks with metal teeth on the end to dig into and push off the ice.
The Sitting Bulls have recently participated in tournaments in Fort Wayne IN & Columbus OH.
The Sitting Bulls are scheduled to attend the National Disability Festival in Philadelphia PA March 21-24.
New and potential players are welcome to attend to see sled hockey in action.
Admission to the event includes: game, basket raffle, Chuck a Puck, memorobilia auction and a chance to win an autographed James Neal (Pittsburgh Penguins) jersey with certificate of authenticity.
